Bastian Obermayer is a German investigative reporter and Pulitzer Prize–winning author. With colleague Frederik Obermaier, he co‑founded Munich-based newsroom paper trail media, publishing through DER SPIEGEL, ZDF, DER STANDARD and Tamedia. While at Süddeutsche Zeitung, the pair broke the Panama Papers story, sparking a Pulitzer-winning ICIJ investigation. They also launched the Bahamas Leaks and Paradise Papers projects. Obermayer has earned major awards including the German Reporterpreis, Otto Brenner Prize, Henri‑Nannen‑Preis, Knight‑Wallace Fellowship (2016), Macgeorge Fellowship (2019), and shared honors like the George Polk and IRE Awards. He is a board member of Forbidden Stories and has authored bestselling books.
