Esra Yalçınalp is currently a video journalist at BBC Turkish in Istanbul, Turkey. She is passionate about making video explainers and mini documentaries. She enjoys creating accessible videos on history, engineering, science, economy and other “complicated” subjects.
Since 2004, she worked as a reporter and a producer for various offline and digital media in the USA and Turkey. She has produced works on such as earthquakes and other disasters, environmental and urban crimes, migrant crisis, Turkish economy, cultural heritage, historical subjects, elections safety, Greek-Turkish issues, Turkish economy, and TikTok…
She was the local producer for Anthony Bourdain’s “No Reservations” and “Parts Unknown” episodes in Turkey.
With her reporting from crisis zones in Turkey; she received two awards. One for the coverage of the 2020 Edirne refugee crisis and the other for a investigative journalism video on why a specific apartment building collapsed in an earthquake in Turkey.
