Fernanda Wenzel an investigative journalist based in Porto Alegre, Brazil. Most of her work is dedicated to the Amazon and to other environmental issues. She has been writing to both national and international journalism websites, including Mongabay, Dialogo Chino, CNN, Folha de São Paulo and BBC Brasil, about themes like: climate change, the beef industry in the Amazon, pesticides and violations against indigenous communities. In 2018, she received a grant from the Rainforest Journalism Fund, from Pulitzer Center, to produce the documentary BR Acima de Tudo (BR Above All), which shows how different groups react to the project of the construction of a road in one of the Amazon's most conserved areas. The film has received several awards, including a special mention in the Big Syn International Film Festival, in London. In 2022, Fernanda was selected to join the Rainforest Investigation Network, also from Pulitzer Center, to dedicate one year to an investigation on land grabbing in the Amazon. This work resulted in a series called "Forest thieves", published by The Intercept Brasil. Her investigation methods include data journalism, especially environmental related data.
