Investigative Journalist
Valeriya Yegoshyna joined the "Schemes" (investigative unit of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty Ukrainian Services) team as an investigative journalist in 2016.
She was focused on high-level corruption and misuse of power in Ukraine, investigating law enforcement bodies such as the Security Service of Ukraine, the National Police, and the Army, and doing international investigations.
After Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, re-focused on investigating war crimes. In her works, she identified Russian military and special service agents who are responsible for crimes and torture of the local population, found victims among the civilian population, and investigated what was happening in cities occupied by Russia.
Valeriya is the winner and finalist of a number of Ukrainian and foreign journalistic contests and was selected as "Top 30 under 30" in 2019. A series of works on exposing Russia's war crimes in Ukraine eventually led to increased sanctions against Russia at various levels.
One of these works on the mass graves in Izium has already been recognized with the Global Shining Light Award 2023 by the Global Investigative Journalists Network (GIJN).
