Investigative Journalist
Maria Georgieva is an award-winning investigative journalist from Sweden, working for Swedish public television's current affairs program "Mission investigate/Uppdrag Granskning". She combines investigative journalism methods with data journalism and fieldwork, which took her all the way to the rooftop of the Russian Embassy in Sweden to uncover spies in the series 'Putin's Shadow War'. Previously, she reported from Chechnya and Kadyrov's killing campaigns of Chechen dissidents for 'The Russian Hitmen' and was a reporter on the Ericsson list project, which was based on leaked internal reports from Ericsson – and revealed that the company sought permission from Islamic State terrorists to work in Iraq. She was nominated for the Swedish Grand Prize in journalism in 2022. Maria speaks fluent Russian and was based in Moscow, working as a correspondent for Swedish and international media, such as The Guardian, The Telegraph, Swedish public radio, morning paper Svenska Dagbladet and Coda Story, for seven years until September 2022. Maria also has experience in working with leaked databases from Russia, and collaborating with Bellingcat and the Dossier Center.
