María Fernanda is a senior analyst at Transparency International UK investigating the UK’s nexus with high level corruption overseas. She has 12 years of experience working as a journalist and reporter, including with BBC Mundo and the OCCRP. As executive director of La Voz de Guanacaste in Costa Rica, she led a team of journalists, coordinated collaborative stories, and contributed to award-winning global investigations including the Panama and Paradise Papers, and the Transnationals of Faith. She also led GuanaData, a data project that alerts journalists to suspect public procurement in Costa Rica, which has received funding from Google News Initiatives and Muckrock. GuanaData has now partnered with SEEK Initiative to train and engage citizen investigators for a wider anti-corruption impact.
