Human Trafficking Journalist
Pari Saikia is an independent human rights journalist and documentarian from New Delhi, India. She is a three-time grantee of 'Modern Slavery Unveiled' by journalismfund Europe. She is the recipient of the European Commission's Lorenzo Natali Media Prize 2021 (Grand Prize) for her investigation on bride trafficking of Rohingya women. Pari has been reporting on cross-border human trafficking issues; Rohingya refugees, forced migration, slavery, labour rights, etc. from India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal, Italy and other parts of Europe for various media platforms like BalkanInsights, Vice World News, Vice Italia, The Guardian, The Wire, The OZY, Tehelka, etc. Today, she runs Asia's first human trafficking YouTube documentary channel under the program of Youtube's Creator Program For Independent Journalists. Pari also runs an awareness campaign on human trafficking in India called #kNOwHumanTrafficking along with anti-human trafficking crusaders, social workers, lawyers, journalists and documentarian where they educate commoners on the perils of human trafficking through video series and silent march and try to provide victims with legal help, counseling, financial aid ,etc. through partner organisations.  Her investigation was earlier shortlisted for Outstanding Investigative Reporting by Fetisov Journalism Awards 2021 and Refugee Reporting Award 2021 by One World Media Award, 2021. Earlier, she was a fellow of InOldNews & Internews' Mobile Journalism Fellowship in 2021, Thomson Reuters Foundation's 'Reporting Human Trafficking and Modern Day Slavery' in 2019 and Impulse Model Press Lab's 'Cross-Border Human Trafficking Journalism Fellowship' in 2018.
