Rhett Ayers Butler is the founder and CEO of Mongabay, a non-profit media organization that delivers news and inspiration from Nature's frontline by working with about 1000 journalists in more than 80 countries. Beyond Mongabay, Rhett's writing and photography have appeared in hundreds of publications. He has also advised a wide range of organizations, from philanthropic entities to development agencies. In 2014, Rhett became the first journalist to win the Parker/Gentry Award, a conservation prize given annually by the Field Museum in Chicago. In 2022, he was honored with the 27th annual Heinz Award.
