Luiz Fernando Toledo is a Brazilian investigative and data journalist who currently holds the Brown Institute for Media Innovation (Stanford/Columbia Universities) Magic Grant for 2022-2023. Alongside co-founding two non-profit organizations specialized in data and public records to support investigative journalism – Fiquem Sabendo and DataFixers.org – he has overseen more than US$300,000 in journalism and public transparency projects that have helped produce over 4,000 stories globally. His work has led to the exposure of wrongdoing in public administration and saved millions in public funds in Brazil. Additionally, Luiz is a director of the Brazilian Association for Investigative Journalism (Abraji) and provides support to hundreds of journalists seeking to utilize public records in their reporting. He holds two master's degrees – one in Data Journalism from Columbia University and another in Public Administration from Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV-EAESP) – and has served as a visiting researcher at the University of Oxford's Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism.
